DO NOT BRING STRAY ANIMALS HERE! on 9/13/24 I brought in two kittens that I found on the road near my house. At first, one staff member tried to help me and assured me the kittens would be treated for any medical problems and would then get adopted. Then, a very frantic and rude woman came out and said they were having a ringworm outbreak and that THE KITTENS WOULD BE EUTHANIZED UNLESS I TREATED THEM AT MY EXPENSE. She was very rude and pressured me to make the decision to take them back or have them euthanized in only a couple of minutes. THIS PLACE CLAIMS TO BE A “NO KILL” SHELTER but won’t even treat the simplest of medical issues!! The WORST part is I did demand the kittens back and took them to an actual vet and came to find out THEY NEVER HAD RINGWORM IN THE FIRST PLACE. THIS WOMAN WAS JUST LOOKING FOR AN EXCISE TO EUTHANIZE KITTENS AND SHOULD NOT BE WORKING ANYWHERE NEAR THIS ANIMAL SHELTER. I will be going back there to get this woman’s name so I can lodge an official compliant with whoever I need to. ITS DESPICABLE.

Clean place but very unfriendly staff and volunteers. "Don't get close to the cages. Do not touch the cages. Do not ( gently)call on the cats no you can't request to touch or interact with the cats to see if you are a good match." (Although pets are labeled as available for adoption and do not have active medical issues). The place was empty and at 1st I did not understand why, but 15 minutes of being there and it made sense. I get and support the safety and comfort of the animals in the shelter and will follow sanitizing, washing, glove wearing, interaction rules but this was something else altogether. It was sad because the cats and kittens were aching for interaction. Per haps it was just the staff and volunteers that day (it was labor day weekend, big adoption time) but again the place was empty not because of the animals but because of the people there. Ended up going to the south la sister location and had the best experience. We adopted a sweet energetic kitty. This location was just not it.

In April 2024 my family adopted a dog from this shelter. We were thoroughly impressed with how well the staff cared for the animals of all shapes and sizes and personalities. Cory and the staff and the many volunteers genuinely care for the animals and all of them work hard to keep it clean and give the animals a good experience. What impressed us most was that Cory and the staff try to get every single dog out to play in the sunlight and fresh air daily. That’s a big task! When we adopt again, we will look here first.

I called about an injured bird a couple days ago. The girl who answered the phone was extremely rude. But she said she would send someone to come get it and got my personal information so they could contact me upon arrival. This was around 11am (they close at 5). Three hours passed so I called to check in and used the call me back option since there was a long wait time. They never called back. Four hours passed and the bird ended up dying. I would’ve looked for more places had I known they would agree to show up and then not show up.

I adopted my cat here about 2 months ago. Overall, adoption process was smooth. My kittie was spayed right after the paperwork was done and I picked her up the next day. She did have tapeworms though. Lesson learned is to always deworm right after adopting ?

My wife and I met our fury companion here at the West LA animal shelter. Unfortunately or fortunately don't know really we adopted sky during the covid quarantine . So we didn't go inside we made a phone call made a list of dogs off the website called back..... And basically they matched us up with the most perfect dog for us. Weather it was skill or magic I dunno. I recommend to any one thinking about getting a dog to check the West LA animal shelter out.
Dog lives matter too.
